Delivery

Trichogramma are despatch as pupae developing in grain moth eggs.

When the pupae leave Mundubbera they have 4 days to emerge when kept at 25 degrees C. Typically we despatch on Mondays and Tuesdays. So this puts emergence time at Friday or Saturday.

However, temperatures in transit and at your end may vary from 25 degrees C.

If its hotter they will come out earlier and if its colder, later.

For this reason, we include in the package a small vial containing a small amount of Trichogramma that will emerge approximately 24 hours before the main batch.

If the Trichogramma are placed in the field on arrival, it may be several days before the wasps emerge and some Trichogramma pupae may be eaten by predators - usually ants - before the wasps emerge.

We therefore suggest you keep the Trichogramma and the small vial at room temperature. When the wasps start to emerge in the vial there is about 24 hours before the wasps start emerging from the main batch. This is a good time to place them in the field

If the weather is unsuitable for placement in the field, the Trichogramma can be slowed by placing them in a cool place. Wasp development is minimal below 10 degrees C. Place the Trichogramma in a fridge that runs between 5 and 10 degrees C or in an Esky with several ice bricks.

Refridgeration should not exceed 4 days as wasp fitness will decline beyond this time.
