Kernel Grub (Assara seminivale)
Kernel grub has been listed as a significant issue for some Queensland growers in our recent survey. This may reflect issues in controlling other pests.
Damage to nuts caused by macadamia nutborer or fruitspotting bug or open micropyle can allow the larva of kernel grub to enter the nut.
The larvae consume the kernel, replacing it with a webbed mass of insect faeces.
Larvae are cream coloured and up to 15 mm long.
If infested nuts are brought in from the field, they may continue to damage nuts in storage.
